Researchers from the UHI Centre for Remote and Rural Studies (CRRS) are part of a team contracted by the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe) to undertake post-legislative scrutiny of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003.

The team, led by Dr Calum Macleod of the UHI Centre for Mountain Studies, includes CRRS Researcher Tim Braunholtz-Speight and CRRS Research Associate Dr Issie MacPhail. It also includes Sarah Allen and Davie MacLeod of Rural Analysis Associates, and crofting law expert Derek Flyn.

The work will lead to a report to be presented to the Parliament's Rural Affairs and Environment Committee.  It involves examining at the impact and implementation of both the outdoor access and community rights to buy sections of the Act, identifying barriers to greater use of the provisions of the act, and identifying proposals for changing the legislation and/or its implementation.
